The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has adjourned until 28 July 2026 the suit filed by All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara North senatorial aspirant, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, challenging the party’s senatorial primary election.
Shinkafi is contesting the validity of the primary that produced Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as the APC’s candidate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC and Senator Kaura are listed as defendants in the suit.
When the case came up for mention on Tuesday before Justice Hassan Dikko, the court observed that the APC and INEC had neither appeared nor been properly served with the court processes.
Justice Dikko subsequently adjourned the matter to 28 July for further mention, directing that all the defendants be duly served and granting them time to file their responses before the next hearing.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, counsel to the third defendant, J.C. Shaka, said he had filed a motion asking the court to dismiss the suit. He argued that no valid APC senatorial primary election was conducted in Zamfara North that produced his client as the party’s candidate.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Bello Galadi, confirmed that the matter came up for mention and expressed confidence that justice would be served once all parties appear before the court.
Galadi maintained that the primary election that produced Senator Kaura was marred by irregularities, alleging that the exercise failed to comply with the party’s guidelines and other relevant provisions governing the conduct of the primary.
