A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, on Monday, granted controversial TikToker, Murja Kunya bail in the sum of N500,000, coupled with two reliable sureties, including a relative and an individual, with landed property in Kano municipal.
The Tik Toker, Murja, applied for bail following a directive from the Kano Shari’ah Court mandating a mental evaluation by a psychiatric doctor.
In his ruling on Monday, Justice Saminu emphasized the need for Murja’s release, pointing out that the court would be observing the Easter break while she had been in custody since 20th February.
Furthermore, the court registry also ordered verification of the sureties’ property.
Also, the judge barred Murja from using her social media accounts until the case was determined.
“Any violation of the restriction would compel the Kano Commissioner of Police to arrest and bring back the Tik Toker to the court,” the judge ordered.
The judge also ordered that “the defendants’ counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police must be in attendance to address amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication”.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned till 16th May 2024 for further proceedings.
The development followed Murja’s arrest by the Hisbah Board after it raised concerns over her conduct and postings on Twitter, alleging immorality.
