A Federal High Court in Maiduguri, Borno State has ordered the release of no fewer than 313 suspected terrorists who had been in military detention facilities in the North-East.
The order for their release on 5th March 2024 followed the ruling of the court that the military failed to advance evidence for their continued incarceration in Maiduguri.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Buba Edward, during his operational briefing on Thursday in Abuja, the court made the ruling on the ground of lack of evidence to nail the suspects after investigation.
It ordered their release to the Borno State government at a later date.
He said: “The court ordered the release for want of evidence after the conclusion of investigation and other ancillary matters.
“Accordingly, they would be handed over to the Borno State Government for further action”.
