Akwa Ibom State Commissíoner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the Amazamba community and Ikot Akpan Udo community in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas, following a recent violent crisis in the area.
Durosinmi gave the directive after he visited the scenes and stakeholders of the affected communities, yesterday.
In a statement in Uyo, the state capital, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Odiko MacDon said: “Worried by the perennial communal clashes between Amazamba community in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Akpan Udo, in Ete Clan of Ikot Abasi LGAs, which resulted in the loss of four lives, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi has visited the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.
“The CP condemned the act of resorting to violent attacks on persons and destructions of property, including the multi-million naira coconut plantation as a way of ventilating grievances, rather than peaceful dialogue.
“The CP, who engaged stakeholders, including council chairmen, traditional rulers, Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer Limited, and some youth leaders to determine the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, appealed to those behind the unfortunate act to have a rethink and toe the path of dialogue and peace for the good of all.
“However, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the affected areas to restore normalcy and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
“He has enjoined relevant stakeholders to intervene in order to resolve the lingering crises”.
