The Cross River State Police Command has appealed to members of the public to help identify a woman who was allegedly killed at a hotel in Calabar South.
The appeal followed the release of the deceased’s photograph by the command on Wednesday evening after no one had come forward to identify her.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, said the photograph was released as part of efforts to establish the identity of the deceased and assist the ongoing investigation.
“The Cross River State Police Command wishes to provide an update on the ongoing investigation on the suspected homicide of an unidentified female guest at a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, earlier reported by the Police in its press release of September 8, 2026,” Eitokpah said.
He appealed to anyone who recognised the woman or had information about her identity, family or associates to contact the police with credible information.
According to the command, preliminary investigations showed that the deceased lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The police said efforts were ongoing to locate the man to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
The command also clarified that the hotel receptionist remained in police custody to assist the investigation and had not been found guilty of any offence.
“The receptionist at the hotel is still in custody to assist the investigation to unravel the cause of her death and not because he has been found guilty,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively.
According to Eitokpah, the directive is aimed at establishing the identity of the deceased, determining the circumstances surrounding her death, locating the male guest and establishing the roles, if any, of persons connected to the incident.
The police urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist investigators in resolving the case.
