The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has urged youths to be innovative in their thinking, to drive progress and transformation in the country.

In a statement on Sunday Hamzat gave the advice during his visit to Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the deputy governor engaged the fellows of the academy in discussions, urging them to embrace innovative thinking as a cornerstone of effective leadership, the statement said.

“Innovation is the engine that drives progress and transformation in every society.

“The fellows of this prestigious academy and the youths generally must harness their creativity and vision to pioneer solutions that drive positive change in their communities and beyond.

“The critical role of innovation in addressing the complex challenges facing society today is very vital in proffering solutions to some of these challenges”, he said.

Hamzat commended the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, for her dedication to good leadership development in the state.

He reiterated the government’s unwavering support for initiatives targeted at empowering youth and fostering a culture of leadership across all sectors.

Last year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu identified the youthful population as one of the factors that fostered the rapid growth of Africa’s tech sector.

“Africa has a population of over 1.2 billion people of which 60 per cent are under 25 years and 70-75 per cent are under 40. This demographic is a significant opportunity for growth and technology”, he said at GITEX One Africa Digital Summit in Marrakech, Morocco.
