Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered their second consecutive defeat at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup after losing 67-71 to Hungary in Berlin on Saturday.
The Nigerian side entered the game looking for their first victory of the tournament after suffering an 81-99 defeat to South Korea in their opening match.
However, D’Tigress struggled to find their rhythm early on as Hungary took control of the contest.
Hungary led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and maintained their advantage in the second period, taking a 36-26 lead into half-time.
Nigeria remained 10 points behind after the third quarter, with Hungary holding a 52-42 advantage heading into the final period.
D’Tigress mounted a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hungary 25-19 and reducing the deficit.
Despite their late rally, Nigeria could not complete the comeback as Hungary held on to secure a four-point victory.
Amy Okonkwo led Nigeria’s scoring with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists in 29:46 minutes.
Efe Balogun added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Ezinne Kalu contributed 11 points, three rebounds and a game-high nine assists in 35:51 minutes.
Victoria Macaulay scored 11 points in 17:04 minutes off the bench, while Murjanatu Musa finished with 10 points, four rebounds and one assist.
The result leaves D’Tigress without a win after their opening two games of the tournament.
Nigeria’s first defeat came against South Korea, who secured an 81-99 victory despite another impressive performance from Okonkwo, who recorded 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
D’Tigress remained competitive for long periods against South Korea but eventually struggled to contain their opponents’ attacking threat.
The defeat to Hungary was a much tighter contest, with Nigeria showing greater resilience in the second half and particularly during the fourth-quarter comeback.
D’Tigress will now need to regroup and produce a stronger performance in their remaining World Cup assignment as they continue their search for a first victory.
