Edeoga’s visit to Chimaroke: What will mischief makers not conjure?

The Enugu State portion of the internet appears to have been at breaking point since Wednesday last week following the fake news contrived by the usual suspects, purporting that state governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Chijioke Edeoga paid a visit to former Enugu State Governor, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, where, among many other figments of their unfertile and mischievous imaginations, Edeoga praised the Senator for his impact during his days as governor.

It was also reported that the LP candidate extracted Nnamani’s commitment to supporting his battle to reclaim “our stolen mandate”, and in exchange, torpedo the ambition of Kevin Chukwu, the victorious Senatorial candidate for Enugu East.

The truth is that everyone in Enugu now knows that it has become traditional and second nature for the innately dishonest and grossly unintelligent media hawks working for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his protégé, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to, from time to time, manufacture fake stories in their determined mission of misinforming the people and creating atmospheres of confusion.

These merchants of mischief, perhaps because Edeoga refused to avail them of his time and attention, have had a field day, and even smuggled the name of Chief Nnia Nwodo in their convoluted falsehood.

Of course, I am aware that the people who went to the devious lengths that they did in order to steal an election cannot offer anything else but falsehood and untruth. Being the custodians of an illegitimate mandate, they are aware that the only way for them to succeed is to continuously plant material and information capable of making the people doubt the right choice that they had made in Edeoga as the legitimate custodians of their electoral mandate.

The latest effort to misinform our people follows an already-established pattern. Our people will recall that on Friday, 8th April 2023, while our people were in the spiritual solemnity mood of Good Friday, these merchants of mischief were busy creating a fake story that purported that Edeoga had addressed a press conference where he accused the LP leader and presidential candidate, Peter Obi of betrayal.

Not capable of constructive productivity, these same people kept vigil from the night of 11th April until the next morning, propagating yet another falsehood; this time claiming that Edeoga visited the former governor.

What these people did not know was that at the material time they had claimed that the meeting took place, Edeoga was in Abuja with his wife and children, taking a deserved rest while he waits for justice to be done with regard to the mandate of the people that was stolen by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It was therefore not possible for him to be in Abuja, while at the same time, attending a meeting with Nnamani in Enugu!

In their bid to coat their falsehood with ointments of truth, the devious minds behind this falsehood dug up a photo taken during a condolence visit that Edeoga paid to Nnamani, after the death of his mother in November 2019. This act alone should tell everyone about the base nature of the people behind this; they take advantage of everything to achieve their goal. Nnamani’s mother might have lived to a ripe old age before she died, but anyone who plays politics with grief cannot be considered a normal human being.

The intention of those who concocted the series of articles in this basket of falsehood is clear: they want to deflect attention from Nnamani’s damningly damaging activities on Twitter, where he has made it his business to expose the massive rigging of the 2023 elections in Enugu by the PDP. But rather than achieve this, it goes on to reinforce the desperation in the ranks of the Mbah factory of falsehood.

In the past few days, Nigerian media houses have widely published stories on the case of forgery of the National Youth Service Corps by Mbah, and this has apparently created discomfort in his ranks. The only way that they know that attention can be deflected from this trending issue was to find a way to bring in Edeoga’s name into the fray, and what disingenuously better way to do it other than suggest that he was closing ranks with Nnamani in pursuit of a mandate that the people of Enugu State freely and willingly gave to him.

For the avoidance of doubt, the determination to fight the injustice and brazen stealing of the 18th March governorship election in Enugu State, was not because Edeoga and the LP team in the state expected any leverage from any self-styled godfather. On the contrary, it is because of the belief in the triumph of truth over falsehood, of justice over deprivation, and of good ever evil.

For those of us around Edeoga, this is not a period to be responding to all the distracting frivolities of people who are doing a very bad job of giving the mandate that they stole from the people of Enugu State the colour of legitimacy.
