With two Local Government Areas (LGAs) to declare by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo is leading in the Edo State governorship election conducted on Saturday.
Only Ikpoba-Okha and Oredo LGAs were remaining to be announced as at about 2 pm on Sunday when the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruq Adamu Kuta, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State called for a break to enable election officials in the two LGAs arrive the collation centre.
Results from 16 other LGAs were announced and the APC candidate scored 244,529 votes in all, while his closely rival, Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the state’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 195,954 votes. They were trailed by Labour Party, Barrister Olumide Akpata who had 13,348 votes.
APC won in 10 LGAs including Akoko-Edo, Egor, Esan Central, Esan West, Etsako Central and Etsako East. Others are: Etsako West, Orhionmwon, Owan East and Owan West.
PDP prevailed in the remaining six LGAs – Esan Northeast, Esan Southeast, Igueben, Ovia Northeast, Ovia Southwest nd Uhunmwonde.
Kuta said the collation will resume by 5 pm.
