Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday tender additional Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, in proof of the claim of over-voting made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
PDP and its governorship candidate in last 21 September election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, are challenging the victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator (now Governor) Monday Okpebholo.
The petitioners contended that, contrary to the results declared by INEC, Okpebholo did not secure the majority of valid votes.
Last Thursday, an official of INEC had presented 148 BVAS machines before the tribunal.
With the admission of the BVAS machines on Monday, PDP legal team closed its case, saying it had proved its case on account of evidence submitted.
BVAS machine is a crucial technological tool used for biometric accreditation of voters across polling units in elections, keeping accreditation data and promptly transferring photographic copies of election result to INEC result view (IReV) portal accessible by members of the public.
But counsels to INEC, APC and Okpebholo appealed to the tribunal for more time to prepare their defence.
