Things are looking up for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State ahead of September’s governorship election as the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih has now accepted his appointment as a member of the state PDP Campaign Council. With the latest development, the party is now poised to prosecute the campaigns with unity of purpose and ensure the victory of its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

The decision was arrived at during the 586th National Working Committee meeting of the party on Tuesday in Abuja.

In a statement he posted on the party’s verified X handle @OfficialPDPNig on Tuesday evening, the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunnagba said: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its 586th meeting today, Tuesday, 7 May 2024 extensively reviewed all issues concerning our party in Edo State. The NWC enjoined all leaders, stakeholders and teeming members of our party in Edo State to, in the overall interest of the people and that of the PDP, close ranks and work together for the success of the Party in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.

“At the meeting, the NWC considered the reaction and or statement credited to the National Vice Chairman (South South), Chief Dan Orbih on the membership of the Edo State Governorship Election Campaign Council.

“After a thorough review of the issues and in the spirit of unity and reconciliation, the National Vice Chairman (South South), despite his initial displeasure over the constitution of the Edo State Campaign Council, reconsidered and accepted his inclusion and membership of the council.

“The NWC urges the people of Edo State to continue in their massive support and solidarity to our party and governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the 21 September 2024 governorship election in the State”, Ologunagba wrote.

A few weeks ago, Orbih publicly rejected his inclusion and vowed not to be part of the council since he was not consulted and contacted before his name was included in it.

He leads a faction of the party in the state popularly called, the Legacy PDP.
