The 24 members of Edo State House of Assembly yesterday passed a bill against kidnapping, thereby approving death sentence for offenders.

The new bill came with the amendment of Edo Kidnapping Prohibition Law, 2013.

The bill titled: ‘A Bill for a Law to Amend the Kidnapping Prohibition Law, 2013 and for Other Purpose Connected’, was presented by the House of Assembly Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian.

The majority leader also revealed that the timely bill sought stiffer penalties for kidnappers, in order to act as a deterrent to the criminally-minded people, particularly youths.

Members of Edo House of Assembly, also during the plenary session, passed a bill that repealed Edo State Electricity Law 2022, and equally passed bills to establish Edo State Electricity Market, Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Edo Electrification Agency and Edo State Electricity Transmission Company.

The lawmakers also confirmed Kerny Okojie, a pharmacist, as the chairman, Governing Board, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, following her screening, while the lawmakers were unanimous in their acceptance of Okojie’s nomination, and urged her to ensure quality health care delivery.
