Edo Queens Football Club have accepted the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision for the outstanding extra time of their WAFU-B final against Ghana’s Ampem FC to be played on 29 October 2026 in Cairo, Egypt.

In a statement issued by the club’s media officer, Ojieva Ehiosunhe, Edo Queens said the outcome of the appeal was not what they had hoped for but had decided to proceed with the match.

Ehiosunhe said that following consultations with the club’s board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the team agreed to complete the fixture in the interest of fairness.

The club added that the team would depart for Cairo on Monday ahead of the decisive encounter.

Edo Queens expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government and the NFF for their support, guidance and representation throughout the appeal process.

“Our mission remains unchanged: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the club said.

Acknowledging the disappointment among its supporters, the team said it shared their determination to have the dispute resolved on the pitch.

“We have chosen to move forward with courage, discipline and resilience,” it added.

The club also thanked its fans and the media for their support during the appeal period and urged supporters to continue backing the team ahead of the match.

Edo Queens said their players and technical crew remained focused and prepared to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride.

The dispute followed the WAFU-B final in Burkina Faso, where Edo Queens defeated Ampem FC 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 during regulation time.

Ampem FC subsequently lodged a protest, arguing that the required 30 minutes of extra time should have been played before the penalty shootout in accordance with the rules of the game.

CAF’s disciplinary and appeals bodies later considered the case and ruled in favour of the Ghanaian side, leading to the decision that the outstanding extra time should be played.

The scheduled encounter in Cairo will determine the outcome of the disputed final as both teams seek to secure their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
