Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has appointed a former Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, as the new Commissioner for Education.

Prof. Sambo replaces Prof. Muhammad Sani-Bello, who has been redeployed to head the newly created Ministry of Information.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibraheem Musa, on Wednesday said the appointments take immediate effect.

‘Governor Uba Sani expects Prof. Abubakar Sambo to reinvigorate the Education Ministry to deliver on his administration’s agenda, which is aimed at improving access to education, building and rehabilitating infrastructure, enhancing the capacity of teachers, harnessing the capacity of ICT, prioritising girl-child education and strengthening security in schools’, the statement read.

Sambo has served as Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria.

His appointment is expected to boost the state’s education sector, given his impressive track record in academia and administration.

Gloria Ibrahim was appointed as Commissioner of Youth Development.

Ibrahim is tasked with fashioning out innovative programmes to empower Kaduna State youths.

‘Governor Uba Sani expects Barrister Gloria Ibrahim to fashion out creative, innovative and implementable programmes and projects to make the Youth Development Ministry a leading centre for high-impact solutions for youth-related issues’, the statement added.

Ibrahim, a seasoned legal practitioner and mediator, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Certificate in Negotiation and Mediation.

Her appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the state’s youth development initiatives.

The governor congratulated the new appointees and wished them God’s guidance and protection in their new assignments.

The redeployment of Prof. Sani Bello to the Ministry of Information is also seen as a strategic move to leverage his expertise in the newly created ministry.

The Ministry of Information is expected to play a critical role in promoting the state’s image and disseminating information to the public.

The appointments and redeployment are a welcome development in Kaduna State, and the new appointees are expected to hit the ground running to deliver on their respective mandates.
