The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arrested 40 suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja.
The dawn operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence on the suspects’ involvement in various internet fraud schemes, resulted in the apprehension of 18 suspects in Dawaki axis, while 12 others were arrested in different parts of the capital city.
The EFCC team, acting on tips from concerned citizens, swooped on the suspects, catching them off guard.
The operatives seized 23 phones, 4 laptops, and 4 vehicles from the suspects, believed to be proceeds of their illegal activities.
According to sources, the suspects, mostly young adults, were found to be involved in various forms of cybercrime, including romance scams, phishing, and online fraud.
They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
