The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has approved N138.7 million for the payment of car and housing loans to 448 teaching and non-teaching staff of the state Teaching Service Commission.

This was disclosed in a statement from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr. Mike Omolayo, made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday

Omolayo stated that “successful applicants under the scheme are expected to obtain letters of introduction signed by their principals and bursars, present their official identity cards and as well photocopies of their biometric data forms, appointment and confirmation letters to facilitate the payment processes”.

Omolayo said that the government’s gesture was aimed at encouraging teaching and non-teaching staff across public secondary schools in the state to discharge their duties more efficiently and effectively, adding that the effective date of repayment starts from June 2024 salary.

It was reported that Oyebanji had in January promised that his administration would address the issue of non-disbursement of car and housing loans to primary school teachers in the state, to get them to start enjoying certain benefits that their counterparts in secondary schools had been enjoying in the state.

The governor, in fulfilment of the promise, approved in February the sum of N200m for disbursement as car and housing loans to primary school teachers in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode had stated that “the gesture was in fulfilment of the governor’s pledge to ensure that teachers in public primary schools in the state start enjoying some benefits being enjoyed by their counterparts teaching in secondary schools”.
