Members of the dissolved Enugu State Executive Committee (SEC) of All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Hon. Ugochukwu Agballah have vowed to challenge their removal in court.
At its 179th meeting on 9 October 2025 held at the national secretariat in Abuja, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the SEC and appointed a seven-man caretaker committee, headed by former state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye.
But, in a statement, the affected members described the NWC’s action as unconstitutional.
Citing Articles 21.1 to 21.3 of the APC Constitution, the aggrieved officials argued that disciplinary jurisdiction lies with the South-East Zonal Executive Committee, not the NWC.
‘The dissolution of the Enugu SEC flagrantly contravenes the APC Constitution and undermines fairness, equity, and due process’, the SEC said in a statement, urging all party officers in the state to remain in office and continue their duties.
The dissolution of the SEC followed last week’s defection of the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, along with his deputy, House of Assembly members and local council chairmen, who are of the PDP. During the official defection in Enugu, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that, going by the APC Convention and Constitution, the governor of a state controlled by the party, is the leader in the state.
