The Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Moji Adeyeye; and the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Babashehu Ahmed have reiterated the need for ethical drug distribution in the country.
They stressed that the ethical distribution of pharmaceuticals is crucial to winning the fight against fake, adulterated, and spurious medicines.
The regulatory body’s helmsmen also called for more investment in ethical wholesale drug distribution.
This was as the regulators also lauded the commitment of an indigenous healthcare firm, New Heights Pharmaceuticals for investing in ethical wholesale drug distribution.
At the commissioning of an ultra-modern wholesale drug distribution facility established by company in Ilupeju, Lagos on Friday, the NAFDAC DG and PCN Registrar said that the establishment would help to bolster the fight against fake drugs.
According to Adeyeye, the newly commissioned facility would help the fight against fake, unwholesome and adulterated medicines.
Ahmed commended New Heights for establishing the wholesale drug distribution facility in the heart of Lagos, noting that the facility will fast-track the agency’s drive against all illegal drug distribution networks in the state.
The Registrar, who was represented by PCN Coordinator for Lagos Office, Dr. Ukamaka Okafor said that the facility was in line with the new National Drug Distribution Guidelines and in tandem with the goal of the PCN for Lagos State.
He disclosed that the implementation of the National Drug Distribution Guidelines in Kano State had been effective, with the closure of open drug markets and relocation of certified distributors to Coordinated Wholesale Centres.
