A former Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba has criticised the claim that former governor Abdullahi Ganduje obtained a loan of N10 billion for the installation of Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the state, stating that it is misleading and erroneous.
In reacting to the Coalition of Political Analysis Forum and Governance, which reportedly made the claim, the former commissioner knocked the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) for demanding Ganduje’s probe, saying the claim by the group was an attempt to discredit the ex-governor.
“We challenge them to provide evidence for the N10 billion loan. For record purposes, when the last administration conceived the project, the State Executive Council and the Assembly formally granted approval, bearing in mind the importance of the project in enhancing security in the state. Unfortunately a Federal High Court in Kano, on 1st July 2022 granted an injunction restraining the government from obtaining the loan.
“We recall that the same court presided over by Justice Abdullahi Liman on 19 July admitted that it was misled in the case filed by one Yusuf Rabi’u, a proprietor of another non-existing CSO by the name Kano First Forum, and therefore, discharged the restraining order”.
“Unfortunately, up to the end of our tenure, the facility had not been secured and therefore the project could not be executed”, Garba said.
