Twenty-eight women from Imerienwe Peoples Assembly have received cash gifts of N100,000 each to support their businesses in Imo State from a notable politician, Dr Theo Ekechi.

Ekechi, a former commissioner for information in the state, made the donation to the women’s wing of Imerienwe Peoples Assembly (IPA) at his Umuoye country home in the Ngor-Okpala local government area of Imo state at the weekend.

He said it was in fulfilment of his promise to provide a modest contribution to support women’s businesses and families especially in the face of dwindling buying powers.

Ekechi had during the 2023 home and abroad women’s August meeting promised to assist 28 women with N100,000 each.

He said, “The money is a gift, to help you improve your businesses and your families. Please shun buying of any uniform or unnecessary expenses, just focus on growing your business which will in turn reduce the number of your members seeking loans.

“I hope to do more next time but this is dependent on how you use yours, please use it well so we can sustain it”, Ekechi said.

He charged the recipients to invest the money in their business and shun any extravagant expenses saying they should use it to improve their finances and families.

The president of the women’s wing Imerienwe, Mrs Florence Anoruo, thanked Ekechi for his magnanimity towards the women even as she pledged their commitment to succeed.

On his part, the president-general of the Imerienwe Peoples Assembly, Mr Casmir Okoro, thanked Ekechi for the kind gesture and for always assisting the people unconditionally.

Okoro declared the support of the union to Ekechi’s developmental agenda and prayed for God’s blessings on the beneficiaries.

Present at the occasion was the traditional ruler of Imerienwe, Eze Augustine Ekechi, the Ijenwe of Imerienwe, Chief Ikechukwu Awulonu, and several others.
