Ex-CPC spokesman, Rotimi Fashakin, dies

A former spokesman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Engr. Rotimi Fashakin is dead.

He was also the Executive Director, Operations at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) between 2016 to March 2020.

As National Publicity of the CPC, which merged with other political parties and interest to form the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fashakin was a strong voice against the Peoples Democratic Party-led administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who also belonged to the CPC tendency of the APC, appointed Fashakin as an Executive Director of NIMASA in 2016.

He served the agency in that capacity until March 2020.

Not much has been heard about him since then.

Fashakin reportedly died suddenly on Saturday evening in London, United Kingdom.

According to family sources, Fashakin was studying Law at the University of Buckingham, and was billed to graduate in December.

The deceased was a graduate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

His close ally, Eyitayo Ajayi confirmed his demise on Sunday via a post on his Facebook page.

“I lost my brother Engr. Rotimi Fashakin last night. I pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss”, he posted.

Fashakin is survived by his wife, Olubusola and children.
