Former English Premier League manager, Julen Lopetegui, has reportedly become a ‘strong candidate’ to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United ahead of the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi.
Ten Hag is currently under huge pressure at Old Trafford after United crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag has faced criticism over his choice of signings, style of football and treatment of certain United players including Jadon Sancho.
Some pundits have called for United to sack the Dutchman and bring in a new manager.
However, according to Spanish outlet Relevo, Lopetegui, who coached Premier League club Wolves in the past, has emerged as a top option because of his knowledge of the English language and the Premier League as well as his experience in European competitions.
Lopetegui is also thought to have impressed Man United’s board due to his strong relationship with some current players in the dressing room including Casemiro and Raphael Varane.
The 57-year-old has been out of work since leaving Wolves in August.
