Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.
Idris reportedly died in the United Kingdom on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed.
Following news of his death, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials visited the late politician’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.
Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Bello, disclosed the visit in a Facebook post on Sunday, accompanied by photographs of Ododo and Bello at the residence.
He said the delegation had arrived at the Abuja residence of the former governor following his death earlier in the day.
Idris became governor of Kogi State in May 2003 and was re-elected in 2007, serving until January 2012. He was succeeded by Idris Wada.
The former governor was a prominent figure in the political history of Kogi State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has also expressed grief over Idris’s death, describing him as a significant figure in the political development of the state and the PDP.
