Former Niger State governor and current Senator representing Niger North, Abubakar Sani Bello, has written to the state government to ask for the suspension of his pension and other allowances as enjoyed by former governors of the state.
He said in a letter addressed to the governor of the state, Mohammed Umaru Bago dated 6 September 2023 and obtained by LEADERSHIP Sunday in Minna yesterday that he took the decision on ethical and moral grounds.
Sani Bello hinged the demand for suspension of his pension and allowances on the fact that he is a serving senator and could not be enjoying the pension while collecting salaries at the senate.
“I write to request for the suspension of my pension and allowances from the government of Niger State for the duration of my service as senator… “Your Excellency may recall that I was inaugurated as the senator representing Niger North in the 10th Senate on 13th June 2023. I deem it ethically and morally improper to benefit from my pension and allowances as a former governor of Niger State while I take emoluments as a senator”, he said in the letter.
The former governor said the suspension should last until he gives contrary notice after his tenure as a senator.
