Falconets forward, Lawal joins Turkish club

Nigerian football sensation Taiwo Lawal has officially signed a two-year contract with Turkish Women’s League outfit Atasehir Belediyespor, bidding farewell to her former club, Robo Queens.

The football journey of the Nigerian attacker started with Aseyori Queens before her rise to prominence with Robo Queens.

She showcased her goal-scoring prowess by clinching the Golden Boot Award at the 2022 Betsy Obaseki Women’s Cup, netting six goals in the competition.

Lawal, who gained prominence as a prolific forward, has announced her transfer on her X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing her enthusiasm about embarking on this new chapter in her career.

She stated, “I’m happy to announce my official move to Atasehir Belediyespor in the Turkish Super Lig. I am so excited to continue the next phase of my career in Turkey”.

Lawal was recognized as the Most Valuable Player at the Flying Officer’s Cup preseason tournament in Abuja in 2022, contributing three goals and three assists in her team’s victorious campaign.

Reflecting on her time at Robo Queens, Lawal expressed her gratitude, stating,

“I want to appreciate FC Robo Queens for the moments we had together. I learned a lot at the club, and I wish them well in their future endeavours. We had great memories together, but those memories will linger on”.

Lawal’s international experience includes representing Nigeria at the U-17 and U-20 levels.

Her move to Atasehir Belediyespor marks her maiden professional venture abroad, and she will undoubtedly be eager to make her mark in Turkish women’s football.
