The FCT Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pegged Expression of Interest forms and nomination forms for the 2026 Area Councils elections at N20 million for Chairmanship candidates and N2.5 million councillorship seats respectively.
This was contained in a statement published on the APC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, outlining the APC’s Schedule of Activities and Timetable for the 2026 Area Council elections in the FCT.
Earlier, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had in January announced that the Area Council elections will be held on the 21st of February 2026, when the tenure of the current Chairman and Councillors will have elapsed.
INEC Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu made the announcement during a consultative meeting with political parties, where he stated that the last area council election was held on the 21st of February, 2022.
According to the statement by the APC, ‘the N10 million sum for Chairmanship seats will include N5 million for the Expression of Interest forms and N15 million for the Nomination forms’.
Meanwhile, ‘interested candidates for Councillorship will pay N500,000 for the Expression of Interest forms, and N2 million for nomination forms, totalling N2.5 million’.
Also, interested female candidates and persons with disability who wish to contest will purchase the EoI forms, while the nomination forms will be given free of charge.
The APC also stated that ‘youths aged between 25 and 40 could pick up the EoI forms, with a 50 per cent discount on the nomination forms’.
By the party’s schedule, the sale of forms will commence on Thursday the 22nd of May, 2025 and close on the 28th of May, 2025.
‘The Screening of Aspirants will be held on Monday, the 16th of June, 2025, while primaries will hold on Wednesday, the 25th of June, 2025,’it concluded.
