Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has invited young goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface and 24 other players to the camp of the national U-17 women’s team ahead of next month’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Burkina Faso.
The list has four goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards.
Olowookere, who led the Flamingos to a first-ever World Cup bronze medal finish in India in 2022, saw his girls fire from all cylinders in a 12-0 rout of their counterparts from the Central African Republic over two legs in Douala and Abuja in the second round of the African qualifying series in February.
Harmony Chidi, who scored five of the 12 goals, as well as Ramota Kareem and Shakirat Moshood, who netted a brace each in the 12-goal haul, are among the 25 players invited by the coach.
Christiana Uzoma, Elizabeth Boniface, Sylvia Echefu and Favour Edward are the goalkeepers called upon by Olowookere.
In defence, the experienced coach invited Prisca Nwachukwu, Jumai Adebayo, Taiwo Adegoke, Oluwatoyin Olowookere, Rokibat Azeez, Hannah Ibrahim and Vivian Ekezie.
Delta Queens’ Taiwo Afolabi, Mary Aderemi; Ololade Isiaka, Farida Abdulwahab, Shakirat Moshood, Oghenemairo Obruthe and Queen Joseph are the seven midfielders invited to the camp.
Edidiong Etim, Yetunde Ayantosho, Harmony Chidi, Kudirat Arogundade, Ramota Kareem, Aisha Animashaun and Peace Effiong (Rivers Angels) will all vie for a place in the attack.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso will clash in the first leg of this third-round fixture at the Stade 4 August in Ouagadougou on Sunday 12 May with the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja Saturday 18 May.
This year’s U-17 Women’s World Cup finals will take place in the Dominican Republic.
