Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have progressed to the Round of 16 of the FIFA U20 World Cup, joining hosts Argentina and the United States in the first knockout phase.
Salim Lawal delivered the first goal of the encounter against Italy in the 61st minute, while Jude Sunday added the gloss in five minutes of added time.
Italy had defeated Brazil 3-2 in the opening game on Sunday; the same day the Flying Eagles pipped debutante Dominican Republic 2-1.
With Nigeria having two matches in the bag, they will take on Brazil on Saturday. The South Americans and Dominican Republic are seeking for their first points of the competition in their head-to-head clash later tonight.
Argentina in Group A and United States (Group B) have also won their first two matches of the competition.
