Determined to sensitise children on the exploits of Nigerian heroes, a non-for-profit organisation, Detola Abike Mogaji Memorial Foundation on Democracy Day took kids on tour of the Hubert Ogunde Museum in Ososa, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The kids were drawn from schools in Odogbolu Local Government.

According to the tour organiser, Mr Tunde Mogaji, the excursion was not just an experience but “an avenue of increasing the knowledge base of the children. It is expected to ignite the passion of selfless service, dignity and hard work in the children as exemplified in the lives of the legendary Hubert Ogunde”.

Chief Hubert Adedeji Ogunde, who died on 4th April 1990, was a ground-breaking Nigerian actor, playwright, theatre manager, and musician. He founded the first contemporary professional theatrical company in Nigeria, the African Music Research Party in 1945.

Tagged as “the father of Nigerian theatre”, he wrote more than 50 plays, most of which incorporate dramatic action, dance, and music, with a story reflecting the political and social realities of the period.

Monday’s excursion was a fascinating opportunity for the children to have fun and also learn in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the serenity of the environment.
