The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday warned against the usage of fairly used tyres describing it as dangerous.

FRSC’s Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu gave the warning when he received the acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, in his office for the partnership on intensive vehicle database integration.

Biu sought enhanced enforcement of the ban on the importation of “deadly tyres” into the country.

He also urged the Customs boss to make it a key priority, the enforcement of restrictions on the importation of vehicles whose ages were at the point of importation, above the specified legal age limit.

A joint statement released by the spokesmen for both agencies, ACM Bisi Kazeem and Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abudullahi Maiwada, said there was renewed commitment towards collaboration in the area of human resource development, information and communication technology.

It said effective consolidation of existing information in the National Vehicle Identification Scheme database domiciled with the FRSC and vehicle database of the NCS would curb vehicle smuggling, improve revenue generation and enhance national security.

Biu, the statement said, expressed hopes that the partnership would entrench ease of doing business and make tracking of vehicles without customs duty certificates very easy for the corps at the point of registration.
