The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday attended the burial of his uncle in Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Wike was joined at the ceremony by the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, among other dignitaries.

Their joint appearance comes just days after a high-profile peace meeting in Abuja brokered by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis rocking Rivers State.

At the Presidential Villa meeting, President Tinubu met with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and other members of the state legislature in a bid to end months of intense political tensions. The President had earlier declared a state of emergency in Rivers on 18 March, 2025, citing rising insecurity and the breakdown of cooperation among key state actors — an action that led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

Speaking after the closed-door session, Wike announced that both camps had finally reached an agreement to end hostilities and work together.

‘We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family’, Wike told journalists.
