In a move to curb incessant gridlock caused by fuel queues, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has deployed operatives to monitor traffic around fuel stations across the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday.

The statement revealed that the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, had issued a warning to motorists who are queuing to purchase fuel at various filling stations leading to severe traffic congestion affecting other road users.

The statement reads, “Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a warning to motorists who are queuing for fuel at various filling stations leading to severe traffic congestion for other road users.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave this warning today as he deployed additional officers to monitor traffic around fuel stations across the State.

“Mr. Bakare-Oki explained that this increased deployment is necessary due to reports of long queues at filling stations caused by motorists who park indiscriminately, blocking roads as they wait to purchase fuel.”

The statement revealed Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of efficient traffic management as a crucial factor for creating a smooth and integrated transportation network in Lagos as he called for public support towards the new directive.

It added, “He reiterated that effective traffic management is essential for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in Lagos.

“Mr. Bakare-Oki also called for full cooperation from the public to ensure that the ‘T.h.e.m.e.s +’ agenda of the current administration results in positive socio-economic development and enhanced security of lives and property.

“He further urged the public, particularly motorists, to make use of LASTMA’s newly inaugurated toll-free call centre at 080000527862 for complaints, comments, and commendations.”
