The Gombe State Government on Friday announced that monthly sanitation scheduled every last Saturday of the month will not be held tomorrow over the local government election.
Disclosing this in Gombe, the state capital, Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Mohammed Fawu, called on residents to keep their surroundings clean, stressing that they shouldn’t wait for the general allotted time to participate in sanitation.
He said, “This is to inform the general public that the instituted monthly environmental sanitation exercise, slated for every last Saturday of the month has been suspended for April 2024.
“This is the sequel to the scheduled 27th April 2024 Local Government Elections in Gombe State. It is believed that the suspension of the environmental sanitation exercise for this month will pave the way for a smooth and hitch-free poll come Saturday”.
Fawu said the suspension was in the interest of the residents to allow them to elect LGA officials adding that, “the general public is, therefore, advised to take advantage of the suspension to come out en-masse to cast their votes during the Saturday, 27th April local government council polls”.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary of Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency, Auwal Baba-Jada, noted that the agency is geared towards allocating about 90 additional refuse collection points.
“We have 90 more to construct not only in Tumfure but along Liji, Akko the bypass that will serve as collection points”, Baba-Jada said.
