- Nubia, AJ Sequential, French-based Tommy WÁ, Akeem Lasisi, Segun Adefila, others to perform
The schedule for the 17th annual EniObanke Music Festival (EMUfest 2026) has just been released. The festival begins with music concerts in Ibadan (21 November) and Lagos (22 November) headlined by Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band, and featuring some of the best contemporary folk music stylists, including Femi Ajayi (AJ Sequential), Nkem ‘Bukola, EniObanke Community Choir, Tommy WÁ (coming all the way from Paris) and more.
These concerts will be followed, on 28 November, by a songwriting and music production workshop. 5 December, the last day of the festival, will feature three disparate events: a football match which is free and open to all; a talking drum workshop to be delivered by OdunOrin; and, finally, a poetry event tagged Word ’N’ Sound to be headlined by the iconic Akeem Lasisi, Aremo Gemini, Segun Ade fi la and His Royal Bards, and many more. Those in the Nigerian literary circles may recall that Word ’N’ Sound was the first-ever performance poetry series held in Nigeria. It ran from 2003 to 2004, featuring some of the best poetic voices and upcoming musicians in Nigeria at the time. Many of those artists have gone on to big careers since then.
EniObanke Music Festival (EMUfest) is Nigeria’s premier annual festival for contemporary folk, roots and traditional music. Founded in 2010 by poet and musician Dr. Segun Akinlolu (Beautiful Nubia), the family-friendly event showcases emerging and legendary artists through live concerts, talent showcases, music classes and community activities. Some notable past performers, apart from Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band, include: Chris Ajilo, Orlando Julius Ekemode, Jimi Solanke, Yinka Davies, Prince Eji Oyewole, amongst others.
