Guinea, who qualified for the knockout phase only as one of the best four third placed sides, on Sunday evening knocked Equatorial Guinea out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Equatorial Guinea were favourites to pull through after not only heading Group A, which included Nigeria, but also walloping hosts Côte d’Ivoire 4-0 in the final group match.
A 90+5 Mohamed Bayo header was enough to send Guinea to the last eight, set up to meet the winners between Egypt and DR Congo. The match is ongoing.
In the game of the Guineas, Emilio Nsue missed the opportunity for Equatorial to go ahead when he squandered a penalty in the 69th minute.
