Students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Asaba, the Delta State capital, were robbed by armed men who carted away their belongings.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that the hostel, located outside the school premises and primarily inhabited by female students, was attacked on Thursday night by the gunmen.

Sources told The PUNCH that the robbers, armed with guns and cutlasses, stormed the hostel around 8 p.m., held the students hostage, and dispossessed them of their mobile phones and cash.

One of the victims said, ‘The men threatened to shoot us. They ransacked our rooms in search of phones and money. Some of us were hit with a gun, and they even slapped us.

‘There was confusion in the hostel, and some of us hid under bunks. The experience was indeed traumatic. We were afraid to sleep afterward’.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

He said, ‘Yes, it is confirmed, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators’.
