Manchester City moved clear winners in the derby with a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday.

Phil Foden opened the scoring before Erling Haaland grabbed a fine brace to wrap up the win.

Foden put City ahead in the first half with a headed finish after clever build-up play, giving the hosts the breakthrough their steady control of possession deserved.

Man United responded with occasional counterthrusts but lacked a cutting final ball and were unable to test City’s goalkeeper consistently.

City turned the game decisively in the second half when Haaland, a constant menace throughout, converted twice to finish off United.

The Norway striker’s movement and clinical finishing underlined a return to the form that has made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards.

New signing Gianluigi Donnarumma kept a clean sheet on his City debut with a number of smart saves.

United had bright moments and showed some fight, but inaccuracies from crosses and missed chances meant they could not trouble City’s defensive organisation.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s side now have just one win in four, while Pep Guardiola’s men head into their next test with momentum.

The result hands City breathing room domestically.

Manchester City currently stand 8th on the Premier League table, while United rank low at 14.
