Former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, has commended the executive of Ikwuano Development Union, Federated for initiating the construction of a Hall of Fame in Ikwuano Local Government Area.
Chief Ikoh, who currently serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Owerri, made the commendation while serving as chairman at the union’s platinum jubilee celebration held at Isiala Oboro, the council headquarters of Ikwuano LG.
Represented by retired Major Emmanuel Awa, a former chairman of Ikwuano LG, Chief Ikoh urged sons and daughters, in-laws, and lovers of progress to identify with and support the union in its quest to construct the befitting Hall of Fame. He called on the union’s executive to strive to take the local government to more enviable heights.
In his address titled ‘A New Ikwuano is Here’, the President General of Ikwuano Development Union Federated, Dr. Anyadiegwu Charles Uzondu, stated that the union has recorded major achievements in the past fifteen years under his leadership.
According to Dr. Anyadiegwu, the achievements include the celebration of Ikwuano at twenty-one with a landmark publication of the first Ikwuano Clans economic development blueprint, establishment of an inclusive committee with equal representation from all four clans, and the convening of the first-ever Ikwuano think-tank.
The President General used the occasion to express gratitude to Eze Charles Onochie Ukatta for donating seven plots of land to the union for erection of the Hall of Fame. He noted that the union had organised workshops on security, sensitisation programs for youths, and is advocating for the creation of a second local government from Ikwuano LG.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Monday Ubani (SAN), stated that the 70th anniversary represented continuity, resilience, and the collective determination of Ikwuano Development Union Federated to preserve their cherished heritage while deliberately shaping a prosperous future for generations yet unborn.
The Senior Advocate highlighted the establishment of Ikwuano Hall of Fame and the launching of its building fund as hallmarks of the program. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for his myriad achievements.
Highlights of the occasion included the induction of eminent sons and daughters of Ikwuano, living or dead, who have made significant contributions to the development of Ikwuano LG into the Hall of Fame. A fundraising launch with a target of ₦500 million was announced to facilitate the completion of the Hall of Fame within the next three years.
The event also featured the swearing-in of the Governing Board of Ikwuano Hall of Fame and the handing over of documents for the Hall of Fame land by Eze Charles Ukatta to the union.
The occasion attracted numerous traditional rulers and dignitaries, including HRM Eze (Dr) Eugene Ndimele, Eze Ben Oriaku, and several other royal fathers from various autonomous communities within Ikwuano.
In his remarks, the Secretary of the Planning Committee, Dr. Eluwa Friday Ndubuisi, appreciated all donors and attendees who graced the occasion.
