Bayern Munich forward Michael Olise has revealed his deep connection to Nigeria despite choosing to represent France at international level.

Born in London to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother, Olise spoke about how his diverse heritage has shaped his identity both personally and professionally.

‘I have strong connections with Nigeria, Algeria, France, and England’, Olise shared.

‘It’s not something I think about every day—it just feels natural to me’.

The talented winger, who spent much of his childhood in France, had the unique privilege of being eligible to represent four different nations on the international stage before ultimately deciding to play for Les Bleus.

‘I carry a piece of each country within me. It has broadened my perspective because these cultures are so distinct’.

‘At home, I experienced three cultures thanks to my parents, and outside, I was influenced by England, where I grew up. I never had to force this mix—it was just part of who I am’, the 23-year-old added.

Olise represented France at the 2024 Olympics where he claimed a silver medal after his side lost to Spain in the final. He has since made four appearances for the French senior national team.

Born in White City, Greater London, and raised in Hayes, the former Crystal Palace star’s multicultural upbringing has given him a unique perspective that he carries with him throughout his career.

His comments come at a time when many dual-nationality players face decisions about which country to represent at international level, with Olise’s Nigerian connections making him another player who could have potentially represented the Super Eagles.
