ICPC arrests El-Rufai after 2 nights in EFCC’s custody

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken into custody a former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), El Rufai, who is also a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was arrested on Wednesday night shortly after being released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement late Wednesday, ICPC spokesperson, Mr. John Odey confirmed that the commission had taken the former governor into custody for questioning over some allegations.

‘Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations.

‘ICPC writes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai the former Governor of Kaduna state is in our custody as at close of work today Wednesday, February 18 2026’.

Having met his bail conditions, the EFCC released El-Rufai on Wednesday night. He had spent two nights in its custody.

On Monday, he had honoured the commission’s invitation to respond to corruption allegations levelled against his administration in Kaduna State.
