The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo winner of the governorship election conducted on Saturday.
This is despite earlier announcement of rescheduled election in some areas where election result sheets were found to have been completed ahead of the commencement of voting would have to be concluded to announce the final result.
INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha announced on Sunday night that APC’s Ododo won the election with 446,237 votes as against 259,052 votes by his nearest rival, Alhaji Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
APC won in 12 of the 21 LGAs, while SDP beat the other parties in eight LGAs.
Ajaka was a member of the APC until he lost the party primary and headed to the SDP.
Another decampee from the APC, Hon. Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), won his LGA – Yagba East,amd had 21,819 votes in all; while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Senator Dino Melaye could not deliver any LGA. PDP pulled 46,632 votes across the state.
PDP governed the state for 13 years (29th May 2003 to 26th January 2016).
