Inter Lagos FC have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), a development that could take the number of Lagos-based teams in the top flight to two.
The club confirmed promotion on Monday after a 1–1 draw against Smart City FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, the same venue that hosts Ikorodu City FC in the NPFL.
The result was enough to secure top spot in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference A table, with 29 points from 15 matches.
The NNL had stipulated that the table-toppers in the four conferences would earn promotion to the NPFL, and Inter Lagos sealed their place with a game to spare.
They are the second club to secure promotion from the NNL this season, after Doma United FC. The winners of the two remaining conferences will join them in the top flight next season.
Before then, the four promoted teams will compete for the NNL title in the Super 4 play-off in Ikenne following the conclusion of the regular season.
Established in 2023, Inter Lagos play their home matches at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, and have built a vibrant fanbase that has helped drive their push for promotion.
Chairman of the club, Lanre Vigo, expressed his excitement at the achievement.
‘I can’t put it into words. I just keep remembering the first day when we started this football club, and we are here now’, he said after Monday’s game.
‘We are definitely going to bring good football, enjoy the journey, and make sure we survive’.
