The committee for the Ray Ekpu Award for Investigative Journalism has called for entries from journalism professionals in Akwa Ibom State with N1 million to be won.
The committee said that the entries for the award, jointly sponsored by Inoyo Toro Foundation and Thompson and Grace Amos Foundation, will open on Monday, 1 November and run till Friday, 11 November 2024.
Overall winner will be rewarded with N500,000, the first runner-up will have N300,000, while the third prize winner will take home N200,000.
In a statement by its Chairman, Mr. Nsikak Essien; and Secretary, Mrs. Emem Nkereuwem, the committee said that entries are expected from only registered members of the Akwa Ibom State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The statement read: “All entries are expected from investigative journalism publications in print, online, radio and television, covering 31 October 2023 to 31 October 2024.
“All entries should comprise a copy of the original publication in hard copy for print; a link for online; an audio recording for radio, with the complete identity of a verifiable station; and a video recording for television. Each must come with verifiable publication date, time and outfit”
“Entries should be made through the Akwa Ibom State council of the NUJ for onward delivery to the secretariat of the committee”.
According to the committee, entries will be assessed on depth of investigation (20 points), conformity with ideals of journalism excellence (20 points), style and language of presentation (15 points), contribution to good governance in public office (15 points), impact on the fight against corruption and impunity (15 points) and contributions to national unity and ethnic cohesion in Akwa Ibom State (15 points).
The committee said that the winner and runners-up would be announced at the Award Nite of Akwa Ibom State NUJ at a date to be announced.
