Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has deleted all Fulham-related posts from his Instagram account, days after being jeered by a section of the club’s supporters during their 3-2 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.
The midfielder was substituted in the 82nd minute of the match, with ironic cheers and jeers greeting his withdrawal. Iwobi, however, was reportedly the second-highest distance-covered Fulham player during the encounter.
Iwobi’s decision comes amid a difficult start to the season for the Cottagers, who have lost all three of their opening Premier League fixtures and currently sit 19th in the table. Only promoted Coventry City have endured a worse start on goal difference.
The 30-year-old started each of Fulham’s three league matches, while his former Arsenal teammate Emile Smith Rowe has also cleared football-related content from his Instagram account.
Smith Rowe featured as a substitute in two of Fulham’s opening fixtures and was an unused substitute in the other.
This is not the first time Iwobi has removed Fulham-related content from his social media account. He took a similar step earlier this year before restoring many of the posts towards the end of May.
Iwobi joined Fulham from Everton in 2023 after previously working with manager Marco Silva at Everton. He has since established himself as an important member of the squad, with teammates reportedly viewing him as a key figure in maintaining a positive atmosphere in the dressing room.
The former Arsenal player has previously faced intense criticism following Nigeria’s defeat at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, when he was subjected to widespread abuse on social media. He subsequently wiped his Instagram account at the time.
Fulham now face another difficult test as they prepare to travel to Anfield this weekend to take on an unbeaten Liverpool side.
