A total of 1,979 National Youth Service Corps members, comprising 1,562 for Kaduna State and 417 for the Federal Capital Territory, were sworn in on Friday for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ (Stream II) one-year mandatory service.

During the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC temporary orientation camp at Government College, Kaduna, the State Coordinator, Hassan Mahmud, urged the corps members to embrace the scheme’s core values of discipline, integrity, selflessness, and patriotism.

He emphasised the importance of participating in all camp activities, particularly the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, designed to equip members with essential skills for self-reliance.

“I encourage you to actively participate in all camp activities that are carefully designed to equip you with the necessary skills that will positively impact your lives during the service year.

“Embrace every challenge and ensure your service year becomes a period of learning, personal growth, and contribution to nation-building,” the Coordinator said.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, declared the orientation camp open and reassured the corps members of their safety in the state.

He encouraged them to focus on becoming ambassadors of peace, national unity, and progress during the three-week orientation course.

Sani emphasised the significance of the national service period, urging corps members to contribute selflessly to the country’s development.

He highlighted the importance of the SAED programme in equipping members with skills for economic self-reliance.

The governor reassured the corps members of his administration’s continued support for the NYSC scheme in achieving its core mandate in the state, prioritising their security and welfare.

He said, “This one year of national service is a crucial phase where you are expected to contribute selflessly to the development of our country.

“I encourage you to take all the orientation course activities seriously, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, which is designed to equip you with skills and prepare you for economic self-reliance.

“The security and welfare of corps members remain a top priority for my administration.

“While I look forward to receiving a positive report of your orientation course from the State Coordinator, I wish you a successful orientation exercise.”
