The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has visited the grave of his late mother, Hajiya Rabi Abdullahi, at the Farm Centre Cemetery in Kano, where he offered special prayers for her eternal rest.

The prayer session at the deceased’s grave was part of activities marking his 65th birthday.

This was contained in a statement by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH on Thursday.

The visit was described as a moment of deep reflection for the Deputy Governor, who was accompanied by top government officials, family members, and Islamic clerics.

The prayer session was held for the repose of his late mother’s soul — who passed away on Saturday, 5 November 2022 — and for continued peace and prosperity in Kano State.

Speaking shortly after the prayer, Gwarzo described his late mother as a virtuous and selfless woman whose teachings and sacrifices continue to shape his life and public service.

My mother remains the foundation of my values and principles. Her discipline, compassion, and faith in God have continued to guide me through every stage of my life. On this special day, I feel it is only right to begin with prayers for her soul, as a reminder of the importance of gratitude, humility, and remembrance’, he said.

He further expressed appreciation to Almighty Allah for the gift of life and for granting him the opportunity to serve the people of Kano State.

‘I thank Allah for another year of life and service. This moment reminds me that leadership is a trust and an opportunity to impact lives positively. I also use this occasion to pray for the well-being of our people and for continued peace and progress in our dear state’, he added.

Gwarzo was elected alongside Governor Abba Yusuf on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections.

Before becoming Deputy Governor, Gwarzo served as the Executive Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area between 1999 and 2003.

His mother, Hajiya Rabi Abdullahi, died on 5 November, 2022, in Kano.
