A 30-year-old man identified as Mutawakilu Ibrahim has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death over food.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on Thursday, 25 September 2025, at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Kano metropolis.
Police reports indicate that the suspect engaged in a heated argument with his grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, aged 75, and grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, aged 65, during which he allegedly attacked them with a knife, inflicting multiple injuries.
Both victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
Their remains were later released to family members for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Superintendent Kiyawa stated that the suspect may have been under the influence of intoxicants during the incident.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section for discreet investigation.
‘The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations’, the statement added.
