The Kano State Government, on Friday, recalled two of the 14 journalists whose accreditations to cover Government House activities were previously withdrawn.

Earlier, the state government withdrew the accreditation of the 14 journalists on 22 October  2024, barring them from covering activities within the Government House.

According to Saturday PUNCH, two among the 14 journalists, Nasiru Mustapha Danhaki, a cameraman with Nigerian Television Authority, and Simon Enokela, another cameraman with African Independent Television, have been recalled.

It was learnt that their recall was linked to the response of their television stations, which declined to replace the expelled journalists without an explanation.

The media organisations reportedly insisted that they would not reassign new personnel to the Government House unless they were informed of the specific reasons for the journalists’ removal, including evidence of any alleged misconduct.

During a meeting with press crew members on Friday, Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, confirmed that Danhaki and Simon would promptly resume their duties at the Government House.

Tofa said, “Following the unwillingness of both media organisations to comply with the request of sending replacements without evidence of misconduct, the government was left with no option than to reinstate Danhaki and Simon to avoid further disruption in media coverage activities”.
