Rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Mr. Omoyele Sowore has said that President Bola Tinubu is not different from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
He made the comparison on Thursday after he was denied the opportunity to meet with the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Mazi at the Department of State Services Headquarters in Abuja.
He said despite being legally invited by Kanu, he was denied the opportunity to meet the embattled leader of the proscribed group.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the former presidential candidate claimed the incident was the second time he was being denied of seeing Kanu.
He wrote, “#FreeNnamdiKanuNow I spend several hours at the @OfficialDSSNG headquarters in Abuja, I was invited by Onyedu @MaziNnamdiKanu to pay him a visit in custody, however, after hours of rigmarole the DSS told me I can’t see him today.
“This is the second time I am being denied lawfully ordered visitation to Mazi since his illegal abduction from Kenya.
“The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime continues to demonstrate intolerance towards lawful agitation for self-determination. Tinubu is not different from Muhammadu Buhari #Revolutiinnow.”
It was reported that Kanu has told the Federal Government that he will not beg for his release after being cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
This was contained in a letter dated 25th August 2023, and signed by Kanu’s lead counsel, Prof. Mike Ozekhome.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria had raised concern over the deplorable condition of Kanu’s detention facility in the custody of the Department of State Services.
The lawyer requested that the Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory should appoint a Magistrate to inspect the detention centre.
