Four leading entertainers Kate Henshaw, Waje, Ali Nuhu and Cobhams Asuquo have opened up on championing child rights in the country.
This is coming after UNICEF Nigeria announced the appointment of a music producer, musician, and film actor as UNICEF Champions for a period of 12 months.
On their new roles, the entertainers expressed zeal and dedication to work together with UNICEF to achieve the desired aim and goal.
“I am happy to be associated with UNICEF Nigeria, we are raising our voices to speak on the rights of children, children’s healthcare, education, immunisation and all other concerns of children. I want us to join our voices as Nigerians and collectively be the ordinary people, who will do extraordinary things,” said Cobhams.
In her words, Henshaw said, “It gives me great joy and pleasure to be working with UNICEF as their champion. I am very particular about child health, and maternal health because without health, you have nothing. Without health, you can’t be educated, you can not even protect yourself. So, I believe that adding my voice to the different causes towards achieving success is very important to me and my country.”
On their parts, Waje said: “I am super excited about this journey, because it focuses on our children. Children’s nutrition, education, security, healthcare, collaboratively, you and I can be champions together” while Ali Nuhu promises to ‘work hand in hand, for children’s rights to education, health, safe water, and any other issue affecting children.’
Over the course of 12 months, the four entertainers will work together with UNICEF to elevate pressing concerns related to children, spanning sectors such as health, education, nutrition, child protection, water sanitation, and hygiene.
Cristian Munduate, the UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, lauded the commitment and unmatched influence of the champions. “We are truly elated to join hands with such influential voices in the entertainment industry – Cobhams, WAJE, Kate Henshaw, and Ali Nuhu. Their dedication and passion for children’s rights will undeniably amplify the urgency of the issues we fight for daily”. she added.
